How polluting is the production of a laptop? This is what we at Swaptop asked ourselves, and that is why we started investigating.
In the Netherlands alone, around 900.000 new laptops are sold each year. This number is expected to rise to over 2023 million in 1. Worldwide, this number has now risen to over 250 million! This of course has a huge impact on the environment and our raw materials! How much exactly? You can read that below!
How polluting is the production of a laptop?
Producing a laptop emits more than 300kg of CO2, and uses approximately 1200kg of waste and 190.000 litres of water.
190.000 liters of water, yes! That's the equivalent of about 2000 full baths for one laptop! You could take a bath every day for 5 to 6 years with all that water.
And then we haven't even mentioned the use of toxic heavy metals such as mercury, lead and chromium, which further pollute water and have a harmful effect on the environment.
And this times a million for the Netherlands and times 250 million on the entire earth! Per year! So much damage to our environment and ecosystem, Swaptop wants to do something about that!

And even if the laptop is rejected for further rental, it will still be sold for recycling or a final life. A lot more sustainable!
In addition, many people often only need a laptop for a short period of time. Thanks to Swaptop, they do not have to buy a new laptop.
