Recognize ads, pop-ups, and fake warnings

You'll encounter many misleading messages online. Fortunately, you can easily recognize them once you know what to look for.

1. Fake warnings with threatening text

Examples:

• "Your computer is infected! Call this number now."

• “Your Windows license has expired!”

• “Alert! 39 viruses found!”

Genuine security alerts only come from your own antivirus program or Windows itself — never via your browser.

2. Flashing ads and big buttons

If something tries to scare you or make you feel rushed, it's fake.

Tip: Close the tab immediately and do not scan your PC via such websites.

3. Deepfake ads

Increasingly, advertisements are being used with fake videos of famous Dutch people supposedly investing in something.
Be extra alert to this.

4. How to Close Pop-Ups Safely
