How to recognize fake websites

Fake websites are often extremely convincing. Yet, there are warning signs.

1. The URL is not quite right

• An extra dash

• A wrong word

• A different domain extension (.com instead of .nl)

Example:

• Real: www.ing.nl

• Fake: www.ing-client-login.com

2. No lock in the address bar

While a lock is no guarantee, the lack of one is always wrong.

3. The site asks for illogical data

A bank never asks via email or website for:

• Pin

• Passport photo

• Scanner codes

• Password

4. The website doesn't feel "quite right"

Illogical texts, bright buttons, strange advertising or language.

When in doubt → always enter the website into the address bar yourself.
