Install safe and reliable software

Software can make your laptop more secure, but the wrong software can actually pose risks. Fortunately, it's easy to do this safely.

1. Install software only through official channels

• Microsoft Store

• Apple App Store

• Reliable websites of well-known companies (such as Zoom, Adobe, Google)

Avoid websites with lots of pop-ups or “free download” buttons that look suspicious.

Browsers all work pretty much the same, but some have better security.
Recommendations:

• Microsoft Edge

• Google Chrome

• Mozilla Firefox

• Safari (Mac)

Turn on automatic updates in your browser.

3. Be careful with browser extensions

Extensions may seem useful (e.g. adblockers or translation tools), but some collect unnecessary data.
Only install extensions that you really need and that have many users + good ratings.

4. Always install a virus scanner (or use Windows Defender)

Windows Defender is excellent these days.
An additional virus scanner is not always necessary, unless Swaptop explicitly sets this up.
